A $50,000 donation from Brandt Group of Companies has helped the Hospitals of Regina Foundation past the halfway mark in its current fundraising campaign.

The $2 million campaign is raising money for surgical equipment in Regina’s hospitals. PotashCorp is matching all donations dollar-for-dollar, up to $1 million, until June 30.

Brandt has a program called Thanks a Billion, through which the company supports causes in Regina and area.

Its most recent donation will be used to buy a new surgical video system that surgeons use to perform intricate and specialized “keyhole” operations.

Dr. David McCutcheon, vice-president of physician and integrated health services in the Regina Qu’Appelle health region, said new surgical technology will reduce surgery delays.

The campaign is also aiming to buy a new microscope for reconstructive plastic surgery, specialized tools for keyhole surgeries and a special ultrasound for kidney operations.
