Self-steer suspension easy to install

Link Manufacturing’s two-hour installation means adding an extra weight bearing axle to your truck just got easier

Adding another weight bearing axle to your existing truck isn’t as easy as it sounds. However, the new Link Manufacturing self-steering suspension can be installed in about two hours.

Scheduled to be introduced next week at the Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, the newly updated and improved 20K self-steer suspension incorporates proven technological and component upgrades already available in the company’s lighter-capacity suspensions.

The Link family of 8K, 10K, 13.5K and 20K self-steer auxiliary suspensions are known for their unique Swift Mount system, allowing installation to be completed in two hours, compared to six or eight hours for competing systems.

Swift Mount uses interchangeable ride height brackets to simplify the way frame brackets attach to the suspension hanger. The same four sets of brackets can be used to mount any Link suspension from 8K to the new 20K.

The distinctive stepped edge on the frame bracket gives installers a visual indicator to help centre the suspension on the truck. By simply comparing the frame bracket-to-hanger location for the driver and passenger sides, the suspension is easily centred, thus reducing installation times.

Rear air spring brackets are compatible with wide flange frame rails, accomplished by orienting the fittings to the outside. The fittings can also be repositioned to the inside.

For ease of service, the air springs can be removed and replaced without needing to remove the bracket from the truck.

An optional bulkhead air control system is also available, fitting within each axle’s compact mounting envelope. Air fittings are push-to-connect. Air tanks are designed to mount slightly above cross members, protecting them when the suspension bottoms out.

Link self-steer auxiliary suspensions are equipped with rugged cast lift arms and Link-Koat migratory self-healing metal treatment. With its unique characteristics, Link-Koat provides unparalleled corrosion resistance and rust protection, even when surfaces are exposed to excessive abrasion, harsh chemicals and other severe-duty environmental factors.

A Link representative said its 13.5K suspension will be available with the optional disc brake package in April 2019. Link integrates industry-standard wheel end and brake components into its suspensions, boosting uptime by streamlining maintenance processes and reducing inventory overhead.
