Six prominent Canadian business representatives have been named to the board of Saskatchewan’s Global Transportation Hub Authority.
Gordon Houston, former president of Port Metro Vancouver, will be vice-chair while other members will be Viterra chief executive officer Mayo Schmidt, former Transport Canada deputy minister Louis Ranger, former Canadian Pacific Rail vice-president Marcella Szel, Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership chief executive officer Lionel LaBelle and provincial government services deputy minister Ron Dedman.
They join chair Wayne Elhard, who is MLA for Cypress Hills.
The authority was established in 2009 to plan, develop and manage the Global Transportation Hub, which includes a one million sq. foot Loblaw Group of Companies distribution centre that is under construction west of Regina and is expected to open this year.
CPR is also expected to move its intermodal facility from downtown Regina to the new location near the airport.
The province has begun major road construction to accommodate increased traffic to the hub.
