Hogs
The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was 48.27 Oct. 23 and not available Oct. 16.
U.S. hogs averaged $59.55 on a carcass basis Oct. 23, down from $62.13 Oct. 16.
The U.S. pork cutout was $93.25 per hundredweight Oct. 23, down from $99.19 Oct. 16.
The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Oct. 24 was 2.679 million, down from 2.688 million the previous week.
Slaughter was 2.690 million last year at the same time.
In Canada, the Oct. 24 Signature Four price was C$182.69 per 100 kilograms, up from $182.09.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $180.69, up from $180.09, HyLife was $194.20, up from $193.35, and OlyWest was $184.90, up from $184.20. OlyWest 2021 was $207, up from $202.60 and HyLife’s adjusted price was $211.96, up from $211.67.
Bison
Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $3.50 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls and heifers on light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $4.85-$5 for prime bulls and $4.70-$4.85 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.
U.S. buyers are paying US$4 per lb. hog hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.80. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation and export costs.
Lambs
The Ontario Stockyards Inc. report is not available this week.
Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,442 sheep and 330 goats sold Oct 19.
Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $240-$310 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $250-$290, 70-85 lb. were $248-$285, 86-105 lb. were $231-$269 and 106 lb. and heavier were $235-$256. Wool rams were $120-$145 per cwt. Cull ewes were $125-$209.
Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $210-$260 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $230-$260, 70-85 lb. were $240-$275, 86-105 lb. were $227-$260 and 106 lb. and heavier were $230-$251. Hair rams were $120-$209 per cwt. Cull ewes were $120-$205.
