Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was not available Sept. 25 and Sept. 18.

U.S. hogs averaged $64.74 on a carcass basis Sept. 25, up from $60.26 Sept. 18.

The U.S. pork cutout was $91.32 per hundredweight Sept. 25, up from $87.53 Sept. 18.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Sept. 26 was 2.627 million, up from 2.578 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.641 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Sept. 26 Signature Four price was C$170.94 per 100 kilograms, up from $156.87.

The Hams Marketing cash price was $168.74, up from $154.87. HyLife was $183.84; last week it was $169.02. OlyWest was $164, up from $150, while OlyWest 2021 was $181.40, up from $172. HyLife’s adjusted price was $202.15, up from $186.69.

Bison

Prices offered by Canadian buyers for slaughter in Canada start at $3.50 per pound hot hanging weight for Grade A bison bulls and heifers on light trading. Canadian buyers are offering $4.85-$5 for prime bulls and $4.70-$4.80 for heifers for slaughter in the United States.

U.S. buyers are paying US$4 per lb. hog hanging weight for prime bulls from Canada for U.S. slaughter, where slaughter times are booked. Heifers are being purchased at $3.80. Returns to producers are dependent on exchange rates, quality, transportation, and export costs.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 908 sheep and lambs and 39 goats sold Sept 21. Lambs, sheep and goats sold higher. Sheep sold steady.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,476 sheep and 322 goats sold Aug. 31.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $210-$258 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $230-$258, 70-85 lb. were $220-$255, 86-105 lb. were $217-$249 and 106 lb. and heavier were $225-$246. Wool rams were $158-$212 per cwt. Cull ewes were $145-$192.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $160-$215 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $210-$246, 70-85 lb. were $210-$256, 86-105 lb. were $220-$245 and 106 lb. and heavier were $217-$230. Hair rams were $150-$171 per cwt. Cull ewes were $140-$210.
