Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was unavailable Sept 20. The price was $34.90 Sept 13.

U.S. hogs averaged $44.14 on a carcass basis Sept. 20, down from $45.67 Sept. 13.

The U.S. pork cutout was $69.15 per cwt. Sept. 20, up from $68.21 Sept. 13.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Sept. 21 was 2.587 million, up from 2.611 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.334 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Sept. 21 Signature Five price was C$127.28 per 100 kilograms, down from C$135.15 the previous week.

On a per hundredweight basis, the price was $57.73, down from $61.30 the previous week.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association said Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range sold at prices from C$4.80-$5 per pound hot hanging weight. U.S. buyers are offering US$3.85-4.00 per lb. with returns dependent on exchange rates, quality and export costs.

Grade A heifers sold up to C$4.70-$4.80. U.S. buyers are offering US$3.50-3.80 per lb.

Animals outside the desirable buyer specifications may be discounted.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 1,435 sheep and lambs and 66 goats sold Sept. 16. Most lambs sold steady. Some heavy types sold barely steady. Good sheep sold higher. Goats sold steady.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,004 sheep and 268 goats sold Sept. 16.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $130-$170 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $150-$175, 70-85 lb. were $152-$178, 86-105 lb. were $150-$170 and 106 lb. and heavier were $150-$170.

Wool rams were $90-$130 per cwt. Cull ewes were $95-$167.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $105-$145 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $125-$140, 70-85 lb. were $145-$160, 86-105 lb. were $140-$160 and 106 lb. and heavier were $140-$160.

Hair rams were $94-$111 per cwt. Cull ewes were $100-$140.
