Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was US$28.92 per hundredweight Aug. 31 down from $29.85 Aug. 24.

U.S. hogs averaged $36.57on a carcass basis Aug. 31, down from $37.06 Aug. 24.

The U.S. pork cutout was $67.21per cwt. Aug. 31, up from $64.18 Aug. 24.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Sept. 1 was 2.455 million, down from 2.518 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.322 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Sept. 1 Signature Five price was C$102.45 per 100 kilograms, down from $108.89 the previous week.

On a per hundredweight basis, the price was $46.47, down from $49.39.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association said Grade A bulls in the desirable weight range sold at prices from C$6 per pound hot hanging weight. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.60 or more with returns dependent on exchange rates, quality and export costs.

Grade A heifers sold up to C$5.80. U.S. buyers are offering US$4.40.

Animals outside the desirable buyer specifications may be discounted.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 959 sheep and lambs and 92 goats sold Aug. 27. It was a dull trade with all lambs selling at lower prices. All sheep sold barely steady. Goats sold on a selective demand at lower prices also.

Beaver Hill Auction in Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,344 sheep and 346 goats sold Aug. 27.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $185-$

220 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $185-$225, 70-85 lb. were $180-$215, 86-105 lb. were $190-$220 and 106 lb. and heavier were $190-$218.

Wool rams were $100-$148 per cwt. Cull ewes were $100-$184.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $162-$195 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $175-$210, 70-85 lb. were $179-$196, 86-105 lb. were $185-$205 and 106 lb. and heavier were $185-$200.

Hair rams were $114-$140 per cwt. Cull ewes were $90-$136.
