Peace and B.C.
- Half of field peas in the bin at about 90 percent of average yields. The crop is about 30 bu. per acre.
- Heat and warm nights improving maturity. Canola swathing has begun.
- Silaging of corn underway.
- Barley combining about 20 percent complete.
- Spring cereal crops have declined to 30 percent being rated as good or better. Canola and field peas also suffered lack of rain, now expected to be rated at 40 percent good with average yields of 27 and 30 bu. per acre respectively.
Saskatchewan
Southwest
- Winter wheat yields are down, at about 37 bu. per acre.
- Eighty percent of fall-seeded crops are harvested.
- Pea harvest is nearly complete.
- Other pulse crops are up to 60 percent harvested. Grades are good, with the exception of early swathed crops. Slower progress in the east and north.
- Glyphosate applications to spring cereals and some late canola continue.
- Swathing of most spring crops is underway, but heavy dews and high humidity are slowing progress.
- Grasshoppers are getting harvested into grain tanks.
- Sawfly is damaging some crops north of Swift Current. Rats and gophers are also issues in the region.
Southeast
- Swathing of peas, barley and canola underway.
- Threshing of winter cereals 75 percent complete, 50 percent for spring pulses. Winter wheat yielding about 40 bu. per acre, peas 38 bu. and mustard 950 pounds.
- Grasshoppers are eating swathed green canola and also ending up in thresher tanks with cereals and peas.
- Topsoil conditions declined to 83 percent adequate. Hay and pasture soil moisture is adequate, with some excessive.
West-central
- Fall cereals are 60 percent in the bin. Thirty percent of peas and about 20 of lentils are harvested and some barley is being threshed.
- Canola swathing is starting.
- Heavy dews are slowing harvest progress, with last week’s heat extending threshing hours.
- Desiccating of most spring crops is underway or complete. Completed crops have been slow to dry down.
East-central
- Pea harvest is about 25 percent complete, lentils have started.
- Winter cereal harvest nearing 30 percent complete.
- Pulse crops quality is rated as high, with slightly below average yields.
- Canola highly variable, with some swathing underway.
- Desiccation of pulses and some glyphosate spraying of wheat. Swathing more widespread than usual.
Northwest
- Fall cereals harvest 20 percent complete.
- Pea harvest started.
- Canola cutting started. Some desiccation of canola and cereals underway.
- Barley silage underway.
- Crops are about three weeks behind average.
- Lentil harvest expected to start this week.
- Crop condition is average and yields are average or slightly below.
Northeast
- Winter cereal combining started; crops three weeks behind normal.
- Pea and lentil harvest started.
- Canola remains green, some desiccation.
Manitoba
Southwest
- Winter cereal harvest nearly complete, with above average yields.
- Pea harvest 90 percent complete.
- Canola mostly swathed, with some desiccation of later crops.
- Lentil harvest 80 percent complete.
- Desiccation of spring cereals underway to even up the crop and deal with late season weed growth.
- Corn is in the seed fill stage, with good cob development.
- August rains have improved pastures to fair.
Central and Red River Valley
- Some loss of winter cereals’ quality due to sprouting.
- Spring wheat swathing started.
- Barley harvest yields in the 80 bu. per acre range in early crops. Some crops are delayed.
- Canola swathing underway, with highly variable crop staging. Some desiccation being done to even out the crop.
- White mould in edible beans and soybeans, sclerotinia in canola. Soybean aphids reported.
Interlake
- Mud is making field travel difficult. Recent warm weather is aiding haying and crop development, which is two to three weeks delayed.
- Winter wheat yields from first crops are 70 to 80 bu. per acre. Fusarium and sprouting are downgrading the crop.
- Canola swathing started in the south, with green seed counts.
- Timothy seed fields are being harvested. Some seed losses due to hard rains.
Northwest
- Winter wheat harvest is nearly complete with average yields reported.
- Spring cereal swathing started. Straight combining of peas and lentils underway.
