Global Markets: U.S. to ban TikTok downloads

– The United States government will ban Americans from downloading the Chinese-owned TikTok and WeChat apps as of this upcoming Sunday, amid U.S. concerns that the apps pose a national security threat. TikTok will still function with little change until Nov. 12, leaving time for owners ByteDance to address U.S. concerns and possibly create a new company.

– Calgary-based Alberta Distillers has produced the “World Whisky of the Year,” according to Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible. The “Alberta Premium Cask Strength” was made with 100 per cent Alberta-grown rye and water from the Rockies. The Canadian rye whisky beat out 1,200 other world whiskies.

– The United Kingdom has seen new COVID-19 cases climb to about 6,000 per day, with the increasing infection rate leading to talk that a second nationwide lockdown may be instituted. Israel began its second lockdown on Friday which is set to last for three weeks.
