WINNIPEG, Oct. 2 (CNS Canada) – The following is a glance at the news moving markets in Canada and globally.

– At least 50 people were killed and 400 injured in a mass shooting at a concert in Las Vegas. Details are still being released on the largest mass shooting in modern US history.

– Jagmeet Singh won the leadership of the federal New Democratic Party (NDP) over the weekend on the first ballot. Singh, a member of the Ontario provincial government, becomes the first visible minority to lead a major Canadian political party.

– A referendum in the Catalonia region of Spain over the weekend saw 90 per cent of respondents vote in favour of breaking away. The vote was declared unconstitutional by the Spanish government and was marred by a police crackdown.
