Alta. bison sale totals $160,875

The March 6 Wildrose bison sale saw 32 animals sell for a total of $160,875, to average $5,027 per head.

Derek Shankowski of Big Country Bison in Pelly, Sask., bought the high seller, a 2018 bull for $12,000. It was consigned by Justin Dorey of Irish Creek Bison in Vermilion, Alta.

The high-selling animal was one of two 2018 bulls sold. Sixteen 2019 bulls averaged $6,156.

On the female side, eight 2018 bred heifers sold for an average of $4,000 per head. Six 2019 open heifers averaged $2,438. Sixteen 2018 bred Wood bison heifers were passed after failing to meet the set floor price of $3,500 per head.

Fifteen consignors provided bison for the sale.
