Saskatchewan agriculture minister Lyle Stewart will lead a 12-day trade mission to India, United Arab Emirates and Morocco later this month.

The trip begins Feb. 15 and representatives of Saskatchewan Pulse Growers and SaskCanola will attend portions of it.

The mission will include stops at the Punjabi Progressive Agriculture Summit, the Global Pulses Conclave in India, the Gulfood Trade Show in Dubai and meetings with importers and millers in Morocco.

The province said that agricultural exports to India were valued at nearly $448 million in 2012. Peas and lentils were the top two exports.

Exports to UAE were worth more than $260 million, including canola seed, wheat and lentils. Durum wheat was the top export to Morocco, and the total value of exports was $185 million.

“India, United Arab Emirates and Morocco are important destinations for Saskatchewan agricultural exports and it is important we work to expand our presence in these countries,” Stewart said in a news release.

He will also meet with government representatives in the three countries.
