Saskatchewan finance minister Rod Gantefoer announced Wednesday he will not run again in 2011.The MLA for Melfort said he made his intentions known now so Premier Brad Wall could make cabinet changes and the constituency had time to find a candidate.Wall is expected to shuffle his cabinet Tuesday.Gantefoer was first elected as a Liberal in 1995 and was a founding member of the Saskatchewan Party. He has served as the province’s finance minister since the party took power in 2007.Earlier this year the minister announced he had Parkinson’s disease and said he planned to run again. He told reporters Wednesday his reconsidered decision had more to do with a desire to work for a few years after leaving politics than his health.Gantefoer is 63.Two other government MLAs have also announced they won’t seek re-election: Mike Chisholm from Cut Knife-Turtleford and Joceline Schriemer from Saskatoon Sutherland.Serge LeClerc of Saskatoon left the government caucus earlier this year amid drug use allegations, which he has denied. LeClerc has since withdrawn as a Saskatchewan Party candidate.
