The best way to improve sprayer efficiency is to increase the volume of liquid that can be carried between refills.

With that in mind, Fast Distributing of Mountain Lake, Minnesota, just introduced an 1,100 gallon side tank kit for John Deere 8RT tractors that consists of a single 550 gallon tank for each side.

Company representative Les Alsman admitted the twin tanks obstruct access to the engine, but added all filters and fluid levels can be serviced without removing the apparatus.

Most producers think of tractor side tanks as options only for row cropping, but Alsman disagreed.

Stock dogs draw a crowd at Ag in Motion. Border collies and other herding breeds are well known for the work they do on the farm.

“We have a mix of row cropping and cereal crops here in Minnesota. We see as many inboard track tanks working in wheat fields as in row crop operations.

“The main thing you have to keep in mind is these tanks increase your total capacity, so if you use a rubber track tractor for spraying, it helps your efficiency no matter what crop you’re spraying.”

The powder coated, stainless steel tanks are equipped with all stainless steel agitation internal plumbing. Sight indicators are located on both sides of the tractor, and the tanks have numerous plumbing flanges, making it easy to plumb for any application. The kit includes all necessary mounting hardware.

Fast makes similar inboard track tanks for Challenger rubber track tractors. Alsman said both brands of tractors are limited to the standard belt width when fitted with the kits.

The wider track option doesn’t allow room for the tanks. It is not necessary to run the narrow row crop belts.

The JD 8RT kit sells for $15,912 US.
