Monsanto Canada is changing the way it charges growers for its Roundup Ready canola technology.

The company is shifting its fee from a per acre to a per bag model effective Sept. 1, in time for the 2009 growing season.

Instead of paying $15 per acre, growers will pay $156.63 per 22.7 kilogram bag or $172.50 per 25 kg bag of seed. Seed and technology costs will be separated on invoices.

Growers will still be required to sign a technology use agreement, but the new system allows them to buy both the seed and the technology at one location.

They will no longer be required to report and reconcile planned acres.
