Dairy subsidies

Open letter to Canadian trade representative: As reported in the printed media, the U.S. are claiming that Canada should do away with, among others, its milk supply management plan.

They have been going on condemning agricultural financial support across the world, while themselves maintaining hefty financial farm support for many decades and quite apparently having no intention, whatsoever, to discontinue such intervention in the world market, ever.

What hypocrisy!

The question arises, why does not the Canadian federal government attack the intervention of the U.S. Commodity Credit Corporation which practises milk supply management in disguise by buying up all dairy surpluses (thus creating more surpluses), as well as financing the occasional, expensive and totally ineffective, whole dairy herd buyouts, and not to forget hefty direct subsidies to their dairy farmers etc. etc., all financed by the U.S. taxpayer.

The members of our association would like to receive your comments on this question.
