Saskatchewan set a new record for agri-food exports last year, the province said Feb. 14.

The record $11.1 billion in exports is nine percent more than 2011 and 75 percent higher than 2007.

Saskatchewan accounted for 23 percent of all of Canada’s agri-food exports in 2012.

Agriculture is responsible for more than one-third of all the province’s exports.

Canola seed is the top export, worth $2.7 billion last year. Exports of the commodity have grown 215 percent since 2007.

Wheat accounted for $2 billion, canola oil $1.7 billion, durum $1.2 billion and lentils $673 million.

The top five markets are the United States, China, Japan, Mexico and India. Last year 18 countries bought Saskatchewan agricultural products.

The province has a goal of exporting $15 billion worth of agri-food products by 2020.
