This map from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agriculture Service shows where wheat production is concentrated in Ukraine where tensions are high after Russian troops occupied the Crimean peninsula, which juts into the Black Sea. The Russian-speaking population is concentrated in eastern oblasts, or provinces.
Despite the unrest, Ukraine continues to export grain. It is the world’s No. 3 corn exporter and No. 6 wheat exporter this year.
