MANITOBA

  • High moisture causes leaf spot, tan spot, septoria and rust.

South, Red River Valley

West

  • Risk of blight in Gladstone and Selkirk.
  • Areas around Boissevain and Melita received showers but are generally dry and not expected to produce great crops.
  • Grain crops are filling and canola crops are shorter than average.

SASKATCHEWAN

ALBERTA

Peace, Northeast

Central

  • Haying is sporadic due to rain.
  • Calgary, Olds, Didsbury and Provost have good to excess amounts of moisture.

  • Pastures, hay lands and ditches are still green, with hay crops pummeled by hail.
  • Lygus bugs reported at Olds and Didsbury.
  • Canola in the Palliser Triangle is in late bloom to early pod set stage and plants are filling.
  • Crops are catching up with warmer temperatures and timely rain.
  • Drier conditions are reported east of Highway 2 toward Saskatchewan border.

South

  • At Lethbridge and Medicine Hat, canola progress is good, with flowers hanging on longer than last year.
  • Timely rain has helped speed crop progress, but high winds are drying soil.
  • Damage from recent storms ranges from minimal to 100 percent.
  • Lygus bugs are reported at Lethbridge, Vulcan and Taber.
  • Drumheller, Strathmore and Stettler saw little precipitation in July, with hay and pasture lands starting to lose colour and running out of moisture.
  • Better production and quality on forages where rain fell.
