CALGARY (Staff) — Japanese-born Wagyu cattle will be stepping onto Canadian soil this fall.

Five Wagyu cattle entered Washington state last summer where the females were flushed for embryos and semen was drawn from the males.

The same cattle will come to Canada in October after they’ve been quarantined for 60 days.

It’s taken two years to get Japan to sell fullblood animals to Consolidated GMP Inc. which manages the Canadian Wagyu Association, said manager Larry Evans. Another deal is in progress to bring over more fullblood cattle, but Japan is a reluctant seller, he said.
