WINNIPEG – Unifeed, the livestock feed division of United Grain Growers, has ventured into Manitoba’s swine and poultry region by buying a feed mill near Landmark, Man.

Hart Feeds and Farm Supply, a 25-year-old company in the southeastern part of the province, will be a subsidiary of UGG. Bill McGill, the managing director for UGG’s livestock services division, said Hart Feeds produces poultry and swine rations, and some cattle and dairy feed.

McGill said the Rempel family, which has owned Hart Feeds for 18 years, will keep an interest in the business. John Rempel will stay on as manager of the mill and will also co-ordinate the operations of UGG’s other mills at Carman and Somerset. McGill would not divulge the capacity of the mill or its price.

“Suffice it to say that the volume is significant relative to United Grain Growers’ present feed business. It entails a significant addition to our total business.”

Unifeed also has operations in Alberta and British Columbia.
