Saskatchewan Wheat Pool last week opened a new research and development facility at the Innovation Place research park in Saskatoon.
The 1,765 sq. metre complex will house five research laboratories, eight growth chambers and two large walk-in growth chambers, as well as office space.
The new facility will bring together under one roof most of the pool’s 40-member research and development staff, who work on a variety of programs involving crop development, agronomy and processing research.
Bob Morgan, manager of the pool’s research and development group, said the pool will also benefit by centralizing its activities in a research park where a number of leading agricultural biotechnology firms are located.
“This will lead to new, exciting and profitable partnerships for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool,” he said in a press release.
The pool also announced it is consolidating its seed quality control laboratory at the same location. The lab conducts tests for seed purity and germination for all crops.
