SASKATOON (Staff) – A proposed new grain terminal in west-central Saskatchewan has a name and enough money in the bank to carry out a feasibility study.

Promoters of the project have settled on the name Great Sandhills Terminal for the grain handling facility being planned for the town of Leader, about 140 kilometres northwest of Swift Current.

Spokesperson Gord Stueck said last week the interim board has received a grant of $12,500 from the Regional Economic Development Association, matching the amount raised by local farmers and business people.

The three-month study into the viability of the project will look at things like grain production, transportation and competition in the area and develop a five-year financial plan. A committee has also been set up to meet with potential partners in the terminal.
