Jersey Canada had 988 members in September, 11 percent ahead of 2008’s year to date number.
This is Jersey Canada’s highest membership since 1967, when there were approximately 10 times as many Canadian dairy farms than today.
Embryo transfers have also reached a record high. Last year’s year to date totals have been exceeded by 180 percent, and the entire year’s totals have been exceeded by 116 percent.
One hundred new herd names have been processed in the last nine months. This is the fourth consecutive year the organization has processed 100 or more herd names, putting the total at 786 since January 2004.
Registrations are up almost four percent over last year’s total.
