Glacier FarmMedia – Canadian farmers planted more canola and less wheat than originally intended, according to updated acreage estimates from Statistics Canada.
Canola seeding was forecast at 22 million acres, which was up by about 600,000 acres from the March forecast but in line with what was planted the previous year. The seeded area compares with the five-year average of 21.5 million acres.
Meanwhile, total wheat area was estimated at 26.6 million acres, down by about 1.5 per cent from both the March forecast and the year-ago level.
