More protected areas

The Manitoba government recently set aside about 2.5 million acres to create three new park reserves and a new ecological reserve. As well, the provincial government is providing more protection to existing wildlife management areas.

The new park reserves are located in the Chitek Lake area, the Poplar/ Nanowin River area on the east shore of Lake Winnipeg and Long Point peninsula and area west from the western shore of Lake Winnipeg toward Lake Winnipegosis.

The ecological reserve is on Whitemouth Island, located in Whitemouth Lake in the southeastern corner of the province.
