MANITOBA

  • Seeding in Manitoba is virtually complete, except for the eastern and Interlake regions.

East/Interlake

  • Seeding completion ranges from zero to 90 percent, with farmers hampered by wet soil.
  • Crops that were sown are advancing well, although there is evidence of excessive moisture.
  • Weed growth is heavy.

Central

West

  • In the Virden and Hamiota regions, rainfall of 120-180 mm has left a lot of crop under water.
  • Seeding nearly complete.
  • Pastures now have sufficient moisture to do well all year.
  • Weeds need to be sprayed.

SASKATCHEWAN

  • Seeding is 85 to 90 percent complete with a few problem areas.

East

  • Seeding is delayed by wet fields, particularly in the Norquay, Yorkton and Moosomin regions, where progress is between 70 and 80 percent.
  • Some crops are under water due to heavy rain.
  • Weeds are growing rapidly.

Central

  • Most seeding is done with some patches remaining in the Wynyard area and east of Humboldt.
  • Crop development is slow.

Southwest

  • Crops and pastures received much needed rain last week.
  • Emergence is good except where soil crusting occurred.

ALBERTA

  • Some areas in the far northern Peace region remain to be seeded.

Peace River

  • Showers helped crops advance.
  • Weed spraying is under way.

Northwest

  • Rain hindered seeding, spraying.
  • High numbers of grasshoppers reported in the Westlock area.

Northeast

  • Good moisture.
  • Warmer weather has led to weed spraying.

Central

  • The area from north of Red Deer to the U.S. border still needs rain.
  • Crops are generally good.

South

  • Region still needs rain, although irrigated crops are advancing well.
  • Some winter wheat crops have either been written off due to drought or secondary tillers have died off.
