MANITOBA

  • The cereal, canola and flax harvests are complete for most areas of the province.
  • Yields are average and variable due to spotty rainfall during the growing season.
  • Wheat ranged from 20 to 75 bushels per acre, barley 30 to 100 bu., oats 15 to 120 bu., canola eight to 50 bu. and flax 15 to 30 bu.
  • There are wheat quality concerns in some areas due to wheat midge damage and light seed weights.
  • Fusarium levels are low in wheat and green seed is very low in canola.

  • Sclerotinia is prevalent in the northwestern area.

  • Pastures are dry and cattle are being fed.

SASKATCHEWAN

Southeast

  • Harvest is nearing completion for most crops, except flax and sunflowers.
  • Yields are variable but expected to be about average and in the top two grades.
  • Pastures are poor.

Northeast

  • Harvesting continues with most cereals and canola about three-quarters complete.
  • Flax harvest has begun.
  • Yields are average.
  • Midge damage in wheat is causing downgrading, but most areas report good quality.
  • Pastures are quite dry.

Central

  • Cereals and canola are about three-quarters completed and flax harvest has begun.
  • Midge damage is widespread and is causing downgrading.
  • Yields are variable but close to the long-term average.
  • Wheat is 25 to 50 bu. per acre, barley 80 to 100 bu. and canola 20 to 50 bu.
  • Sawfly damage is considerable throughout the area.
  • Pastures have dried out.

Southwest

  • Harvest is nearly complete, except for canola, flax and chickpeas.
  • Yields are below average while quality is above average.
  • Soil conditions are too dry to seed fall rye and winter wheat.

Northwest

  • Harvest has advanced rapidly with nearly three-quarters of crops completed. Flax is still out.
  • Yields are close to the long-term average.
  • Pastures are drying out.

ALBERTA

South

  • Harvest of most crops is nearing completion except in the western areas.
  • Yields are variable but slightly above average in most areas, with very good quality.
  • Areas with drought report lower bushel weights.
  • The dry bean and sweet corn harvests continue.
  • Silage corn harvest is about two weeks ahead of normal.
  • Fall post-harvest weed control has begun.
  • Pastures are stressed and cattle are on stubble fields.

Central

  • Harvest of all crops is about half finished across the region.
  • Many producers have moved to fall tillage.
  • Yields are average for canola and above average for cereals.
  • Crop quality is very good.
  • Pastures are still OK.

Northeast-northwest

  • Harvest has rapidly advanced with cereals and canola about three-quarters completed.
  • Yields are variable but near long-term averages.
  • Pastures are rated fair.

Peace River

  • Harvest is nearing 75 percent complete in dry and windy weather.
  • Yields are variable but below average.
  • Canola is averaging 25 bu. per acre. Cereals range from 40 to 60 bu.
  • Soil conditions are very dry so producers are holding off fall tillage until conditions improve.
  • Pastures are in fair condition.
