MANITOBA

  • Better weather has allowed harvesting to progress.
  • Many cereals are being straight combined in eastern regions.
  • Winter wheat is harvested, with yields up to 82 bushels per acre.
  • About 30 percent of the cereals are swathed.
  • Warm weather is helping silage corn mature.
  • Sclerotinia is reported in soybeans, canola and sunflowers.
  • Pastures are in good shape.
  • The Interlake area is recovering from last week’s rain, with canola harvested at high moisture levels.
  • Harvest is most advanced in central and southern Manitoba.

  • About 60 percent of the crop is harvested at Treherne/Portage la Prairie, with most requiring aeration and drying.
  • Yields are average to good, with above average yields of canola.
  • Potato harvesting under way.
  • Average to above average yields reported in the southwest, where sprouting is downgrading crops. About 16 percent of the harvest is complete.
  • Early canola is being combined at Neepawa, and yields are excellent with little damage from early frosts.
  • Crops are coming off damp near Roblin.
  • About 20 percent of the harvest is complete at Dauphin.

SASKATCHEWAN

  • About 18 percent of the crop is combined, compared to the provincial average of 43 percent in other years.
  • Canola and barley are 90 percent swathed around Yorkton, where wheat combining is under way.
  • Frost damaged crops in the southeast, where yields are good with poor grades. Sun, wind drying crops.
  • About 60 percent of the canola is harvested, while 50 percent of the peas and 30 percent of cereals are off.
  • Crop is 50 percent harvested in the southwest, with good to excellent yields. Mustard crops look good.
  • Leaf diseases have downgraded durum.
  • About 40 percent of the harvest is complete at Rosetown, where canola is coming off as high as 60 bu. per acre.
  • Frost damage is evident but not as bad as earlier predicted.

ALBERTA

  • Good harvest weather is reported in the Peace River region.
  • Crop is sprouting in rows at Falher/Rycroft, resulting in crop losses. Pea pods are brittle. Many farmers are using pickup reels to combine crops.
  • Crops are coming off close to dry in Sexsmith/Grande Prairie. Crop is about 15 percent harvested.
  • Canola is swathed and dry at Drayton Valley, where the second cut of hay is under way. Most crops have been left standing for straight combining.
  • Pastures are under pressure.
  • Peas and canola are 70 percent harvested east of Edmonton, where Ð4 C frost was recorded.
  • About 60 percent of the crop is harvested at Drumheller. Frost damage is evident, but not serious.
  • Most cereals are off and grading number three.
  • Malting barley quality has been downgraded due to sprouting, while canola grades are holding up well.
  • Dry bean harvest is under way, with quality issues expected.
  • Sugar beet yields will be 10 percent below average.
  • Silage corn is yielding up to 30 tons per acre in southern Alberta.
