FCC calls for community projects

The sign-up period for the Farm Credit Canada AgriSpirit Fund has begun. Registered charities and non-profit organizations that want to apply for funding should do so on-line at www.agrispirit.ca, from May 3 until June 14.The fund provides $1 million to support rural capital projects across Canada.The FCC AgriSpirit Fund awards between $5,000 and $25,000 for capital community improvement projects, such as emergency services equipment, playgrounds, recreation centres and care homes in communities with populations fewer than 100,000.In 2009, FCC received 1,374 applications for AgriSpirit funding and gave $1 million to 115 community groups across Canada.To receive funding, groups must meet certain criteria. FCC will announce the selected projects in December 2010.FCC provides business and financial services to farms and agribusiness.For more information, visit www.fcc.ca.

Kubota Canada plans 4-H investment

Kubota Canada has provided $200,000 to 4-H, mostly for clubs to use at their discretion, but some is also used it to buy banners, signs, volunteers and prizes for provincial, regional and local 4-H beef and dairy shows across Canada.It is the second year that Kubota Canada has provided support for 4-H.Last year, Kubota was involved in more than 65 4-H beef and dairy shows. In 2010, it plans to expand its commitment to 4-H.Across Canada, more than 26,000 youths are involved in the 4-H program.

The Canadian Farm Business Management Council has launched the National Farm Business Advisor Database.Farmers can use the database to search for agricultural advisers across Canada and be better prepared to select advice and make the best use of the contributions an adviser can offer to their businesses.Farm advisers can use this website to advertise their services.Managing for success often depends upon having access to reliable resources, such as farm business advisers. Advisers can help identify new opportunities and provide creative strategies to challenges. The database includes:* Resources and publications, collected to help farm managers better understand farm advisory services and to choose an adviser that best suits their operation;* organizations and associations, a list of associations, organizations and corporations involved in farm business advisory services with web links;* acronyms and designations, a glossary of terms commonly encountered in the farm business advisory community.To search for an adviser or register as an adviser, visit www.farmcentre.com/farmadvisorsThe CFBMC works with governments and public and private sector organizations to foster agriculture development.
