Organic tracking

Agriculture Canada has increased the number of commodities to 61 from 41 to be included in a pilot project that tracks data on organic imports.

Additional products and varieties are expected to be added during the next three years to develop a list of codes to track import and export trade in significant organic agricultural products.

The pilot project started in 2007 and is a collaboration between Statistics Canada, the Canadian Border Services Agency, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and the organic industry in Canada.

Clients will be able to track commodities on-line through the Canadian International Merchandise Trade Database. Information on specific tariff listings is available from the Canada Border Services Agency at www.sbsa-asfc.gc.ca/trade-commerce/tariff-tarif/2008/01-99/tblmod-1-eng.html.
