Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts April 12 was not available. It was not available on April 5.

U.S. hogs averaged was $86.60 on a carcass basis April 12, down from $86.70 on April 5.

The U.S. pork cutout was $ 101.20 per hundredweight April 12, up from $97.75 on April 5.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to April 12 was 2.396 million. It was 2.314 million on the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.258 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the April 13 Signature Four price was $213.24 per 100 kilograms, up from $208.32.

The April 13 Hams Marketing cash price was $211.24, on April 6 was $203.22, HyLife was $228.41 last week. On April 6 it was $218.47. OlyWest was $211.00, up from $206.10.

OlyWest 2021 was up, at $222.90 from $218.80 and HyLife’s adjusted price was $232.88. On April 6 it was $218.80.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association reported domestic carcass prices for finished bulls $485 to $510 per cwt., hot hanging weight. Finished heifers were $475 to $510 cwt. HHW. Mature bulls were $300 to $400 cwt. HHW, while mature cows were $300 to $400 cwt. HHW.

Carcass prices for bison being sold into the U.S. were US$400 to US$430 for bulls per cwt. HHW. Heifers were US$360 to US$400 per cwt. HHW. Mature bulls were US$313 to US$326 while mature cows were $US300 to US$315 per cwt. HHW. All prices are subject to fluctuations in the market and dollar exchange rates.

Prices for live bison in Canada were $2.50 to $2.85 per pound for bulls and $2.00 to $2.50 per pound for heifers of good quality or better. Mixed live animal price was $1.60 to $2.38 per pound.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported 265 sheep and 488 lambs sold April 8.

Beaver Hill Auctions at Tofield, Alberta reported 1,310 sheep and 202 goats sold April 8.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $325-$385 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $325-$375, 70-85 lb. were $315-$384, 86-105 lb. were $300-$382, and 106 lb. and heavier were $290-$375. Wool rams were $130-$195 per cwt. Cull ewes were $120-$260.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $300-$350, 55-69 lb. were $290-$345, 70-85 lb. were $290-$345, 86-105 lb. were $290-$350 and 106 lb. and heavier were $280-$340. Hair rams were $160-$200 per cwt. Cull ewes were $126-$270.
