Sept. 21 (CNS Canada) – Most of the Saskatchewan pulse crop is in the bin, according to the latest report from Saskatchewan Agriculture.
Lentils are 99 per cent combined and peas are 97 per cent complete, according to the crop report issued Sept. 21. Lentils saw lower yields in moisture-depleted areas of the southern grain belt.
According to market analysis firm Stat Communications, this year’s lentil crop rates 37 per cent No. 1 Canada and 57 per cent No.2 Canada, according to early estimates from Saskatchewan crop reporters.

Saskatchewan Chickpeas are 83 per cent combined and Carl Potts of the Saskatchewan Pulse Growers said while yields may be down from last year, the overall quality should make for a very marketable crop. However, he added many chickpeas will be of smaller caliber.
The United States Dry Bean Council reports a “negative tone” about China’s bean exports and suggests export challenges have China focusing more on domestic consumption. The USDBC report said it expects Chinese production of light speckled kidney beans and black beans to increase by more than 100 per cent compared to a year ago. As well, it reported China’s white bean production is expected to decline and dark red kidney bean production to fall slightly.
