Winnipeg – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world feed grains markets on Friday, January 8.
– CBOT corn futures were up at midday Friday, January 8, as traders were positioning themselves ahead of a number of key USDA reports out on January 12.
– Heat waves and droughts cut into world grain harvests by 10 per cent from 1964 to 2007, according to new research from McGill University published in the journal Nature. Roughly 1.2 billion tonnes of grain were lost due to heat waves and an additional 1.8 billion tonnes due to drought, according to the study.
– Argentina’s corn crop is 83 per cent seeded, according to reports out of the country, which is slightly ahead of the previous year’s pace. However, total area to the crop is still expected to be down on the year.
– Feed barley bids in Alberta are currently in the C$3.45 to C$4.68 per bushel area, according to the latest Prairie Ag Hotwire data. Delivered feed wheat prices, meanwhile, range from C$5.13 to C$6.26 per bushel.
