Winnipeg – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world feed grains markets on Wednesday, January 20.
– CBOT corn futures were stronger on Wednesday, bucking the trend in the neighbouring grain markets as speculative short-covering provided some support. The March contract was up one cent, at US$3.6875 per bushel.
– Ukrainian farmers are expected to plant 22 per cent more spring barley this year compared to 2015/16, according to a report from APK-Inform that forecast area to the crop at 2.2 million hectares.

– Indonesia is importing corn for the first time in a decade, with 100,000 tonnes expected to be imported in January and a total of 600,000 tonnes during the first quarter of 2016, according to country officials.
– A bird flu outbreak in Indiana will likely result in 400,000 chickens and turkeys being euthanized, but the grain markets are not expected to be majorly influenced.
– Feed barley bids in the key cattle feeding area of Lethbridge, Alberta were in the C$205 to C$214 per tonne area as of January 15, which was unchanged compared to the previous week, according to provincial reports. Feed wheat prices were in the C$220 to C$225 range, which was down slightly from the previous week.
