WINNIPEG – The Canadian dollar stayed mostly unchanged from the weekend.
The loonie closed at US$0.7345 or US$1=C$1.3615, down from US$0.7348 or US$1=C$1.3610 on Friday. The United States Dollar Index lost 0.20 of a point at 104.32.
Crude oil ended the day with gains after a downturn this morning following China’s announcement of more modest economic goals. Brent crude oil advanced US$0.45 per barrel to US$86.28. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) made US$0.87 at US$80.55/barrel. Western Canadian Select (WCS) added US$0.57/barrel to US$65.22.
The TSX/S&P Composite Index lost 66.78 points to 20,514.80, due to weakness in the energy and base metal sectors.
Gold was down US$2.80 at US$1,851.80 per ounce.
