At 9:30 a.m. CST the Canadian dollar was trading at US$0.7151 or US$1=C$1.3984 which compares with Thursday’s close of US$0.7163 or US$1=C$1.3960.
Canadian retail sales rose 0.4 per cent in September, hitting C$66.9 billion, reported Statistics Canada. Sales were up in six of nine subsectors, led by food and beverage retailers.
Crude oil was stronger Friday morning, with West Texas Intermediate crude oil up by 1.01 per cent at US$70.81 per barrel.
The TSX was firm, gaining 48.32 points at 9:30 CST to trade at 25,439.00.
