Hogs

The U.S. national live price average for barrows and gilts was $66.79 Feb. 28, down from $67.43 Feb. 21.

U.S. hogs averaged $90.02 on a carcass basis Feb. 28, down from $90.08 Feb. 21.

The U.S. pork cutout was $98.42 per hundredweight Feb. 28, up from 97.07 Feb. 21.

The estimated U.S. weekly slaughter to Feb. 28 was 2.438 million. It was 2.397 million the previous week.

Slaughter was 2.438 million last year at the same time.

In Canada, the Feb. 28 Signature Four price was $227.46 per 100 kilograms, up from $226.42.

The March 1 Hams Marketing cash price was $223.84, while on Feb. 22 it was $224.42. HyLife was $239.60 this week; it was $240.72 Feb. 22. OlyWest was $231.10, up from $228.30 last week.

OlyWest 2021 was down, at $239.50, from $241, and HyLife’s adjusted price was $240.69 this week, while on Feb. 22 it was $242.30.

Bison

The Canadian Bison Association reported domestic carcass prices was $570-$600 per cwt., hot hanging weight, for finished bulls and $535-$600 per cwt. for finished heifers. Mature bull prices were not available, while mature cows were $425-$450 per cwt.

Carcass prices for bison sold into the United States were US$440-$460 per cwt. for bulls and $425-$445 per cwt. for heifers. Prices were not available for mature bulls and cows.

All prices are subject to fluctuations in the market and dollar exchange rates.

Prices for live bison in Canada were C$3 per pound for bulls and $2.70 per lb. for heifers of good quality or better. Mixed live animal price was not available.

Lambs

Ontario Stockyards Inc. reported that 442 sheep and 513 lambs sold Feb. 24.

Beaver Hill Auctions at Tofield, Alta., reported that 1,153 sheep and 246 goats sold Feb. 24.

Wool lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $400-$445 per cwt., 55-69 lb. were $390-$460, 70-85 lb. were $370-$435, 86-105 lb. were $325-$400, and 106 lb. and heavier were $300-$370. Wool rams were $190-$265 per cwt. Cull ewes were $140-$330.

Hair lambs lighter than 54 lb. were $320-$415, 55-69 lb. were $360-$460, 70-85 lb. were $360-$425, 86-105 lb. were $330-$395 and 106 lb. and heavier were $300-$345. Hair rams were $190-$225 per cwt. Cull ewes were $200-$275.
