A western Saskatchewan town is having fun with its mouse problem.

Residents in the Eston area complained last fall about being overrun by mice. Now that spring is drawing the rodents out of their winter nests, the problem is visible again.

Organizers of the annual Eston Trade Fair have decided to hold a contest to see who can come up with the best mousetrap.

Organizer Jack Piett said several farmers have had luck with a baited five gallon pail of water.

“Guys have said they’ve been filling it in three or four days.”

Piett said judging will be by people’s choice rather than a mouse catching test.

“I don’t know how many entries we’ll get. It’s just a fun thing.”

The contest will be held April 9 during the trade fair. For more information, contact Piett at 306-962-4948.
