Albert and Michelle Rimke of Oak Lake are Manitoba’s 2006 Outstanding Young Farmers.

The couple own AM Ranching, a registered herd of polled Herefords and run a 235-head cow-calf operation, in addition to feeding out about 300 calves each year. They farm with Michelle’s parents who have a mixed herd of polled Herefords and Red and Black Angus cattle. The Rimkes’ three children are involved in the farm – Jay, 12, Samantha, 9, and Levi, 6, – and represent the fourth generation on the family operation.

The Rimkes will represent Manitoba at the Canada Outstanding Young Farmer Awards, to be held in November in Saskatoon. The contest has been running annually since 1979.

Saskatchewan will name its winner June 23 and the Alberta-Northwest Territories will name its regional winner July 10. The British Columbia-Yukon region has named its winner: Pieter and Anita deBruin of Abbotsford.
