The Rodgers family of MacGregor, Man., has been named as the 2006 Farm Family of the Year.
The award, presented by the Red River Exhibition Association, profiles Manitoba producers who demonstrate community involvement and the traditional values of a farm family.
Robert and Velma Rodgers, along with their son Brad and son-in-law Vaughn Guy, run a hog finishing operation and a 125 cow-calf venture on their 3,800 acre mixed grain farm. Robert’s brother, Brian, is also a partner in the enterprise.
The Rodgers market more than 300 hogs per week. They grow oats, canola, soybeans, winter wheat, barley and corn on their minimum till farm.
They are involved in their industry and community and have shown a commitment to conservation.
“The Rodgers are certainly a farm family that exemplifies modern and successful Manitoba agriculture,” said Paul Robson, chief executive officer for the Red River Exhibition Association.
