The RCMP needs help in naming a new batch of police puppies.
Children are encouraged to submit names for 10 German Shepherd puppies born at the Police Dog Service Training Centre near Innisfail, Alta., which is the national training centre for the canine unit.
Contestants are allowed one name per entry and need to keep in mind these are working dogs and not pets. Winners will each receive a photo of the pup they name, a plush dog named Justice and an RCMP cap.

• Contestants can suggest only one name (one entry per person).
• The name may be for a male or a female pup.
• The name must start with the letter “G.”
• The name must have no more than nine letters.
• The name must be one or two syllables.
• Contestants must live in Canada and be 16 years old or younger.
There are three ways to enter:

• Email the child’s name, age, address, telephone number and the suggested name for a puppy to pdstc-cdcp@rcmp-grc.gc.ca.
• Send a postcard or letter to: Attn: Name the Puppy Contest, Police Dog Service Training Centre, Box 6120, Innisfail, Alta., T4G 1S8. Be sure to print the child’s name, age, address, telephone number and the suggested name for a puppy.
Children are also invited to send drawings and paintings along with their entries. Names not selected for the contest will be considered for other puppies born during the year.
The deadline for entries is March 5, and winners will be announced April 15.
