BUENOS AIRES, June 10 (Reuters) – A strike by port workers at Rosario, Argentina’s biggest agricultural export hub, was holding up 126 grain ships for a second straight day on Tuesday, preventing the ships entering or leaving terminals, a local business group said.

The South American country is the world’s third-biggest exporter of soybeans and corn, and about 80 percent of its shipments leave from Rosario.

“There are 126 ships affected at this moment,” said Guillermo Wade, president of the Port and Maritime Activities Chamber.

The strike for higher wages started on Monday, in the middle of the soybean harvest.

All terminals at the hub’s ports of Timbues, Puerto General San Martin and San Lorenzo were affected by the strike.

Labour protests are common in Argentina’s soy belt, where powerful unions and companies often fight over the spoils of multimillion-dollar exports.
