An Alberta company has developed technology that South African farmers are using to control five separate tanks in their air cart.
Minimum-till farmers Jannie and Kobus Baard control the five tanks on their air seeder cart with a Zynx Mini ECU developed by Kee Technologies of Alberta.
The Baards grow wheat, barley, oats and canola in the Western Cape of South Africa. They seed with an Australian-built DBS Multistream Airseeder.
The five tank cart has four 2,000 litre tanks and one 280 litre tank. Two tanks are dedicated to dry fertilizer or seed, another can be swapped between dry and liquid fertilizer while the other two are dedicated for chemical spraying and fine seeds.

Nytro Ag Corp and Green Lightning recieved an innovation award at Ag in Motion 2025 for the Green Lightning Nitrogen Machine, which converts atmospheric nitrogen into a plant-usable form.
The Zynx Precision Agriculture system controls the five tanks simultaneously with variable rate control while also doing field guidance. Guidance is important to the Baards to prevent double seeding and missed areas while working in the thick mist they generally experience in the Western Cape.
The Baards say the interactive colour coverage and prescription maps on the Zynx screen showing the applied area is a great feature, especially in low visibility conditions.
Although they say their fifth tank enhances flexibility in planting, they admit it would be of little value without the control system.
They also use the Zynx ECU to automatically log application data, maps and details of each job, which enables them to record the precision application of all seed, fertilizer and chemicals.
