No promises
Ralph Klein got himself reelected in Alberta by not promising anything but to keep the fiscal house in order.
Is this the pattern for the next few elections?
“Electors of Blank constituency, I make no promise but this: If elected I will stay the course, I will do as I have done in the past, I will keep the ship of state sailing toward the promised land, I will do exactly what Standard and Poors says it is fiscally prudent to do. I will not bow to the pressure of sit-ins, sticky-wicket pickets or thousand-name petitions.”
Perhaps it might be refreshing to have an election campaign without extravagant and often unfulfillable promises.
As for pinning a candidate down to policy specifics, you may hear this one:
“Umm, well, we’ll certainly take that under advisement. When we hear the grassroots speaking, we are the party that listens.”
So if you see a politician with her head in your lawn, you’ll know what she is up to.
