Pulses: Canadian dry pea exports increase

Winnipeg, January 30 – According to Agriculture and Agri-food Canada, Canadian dry pea exports between August and November of 2016 were 1.65 million tonnes. That is 26 percent more than the previous year. Total exports for 2016/17 are expected to hit a record 3.2 million tonnes and hold steady in 2017/18.
The total amount of lentils exported from Canada is expected to decline to 2.0 million tonnes due to waning demand from India. Going forward however, that number is expected to rise to 2.3 million in 2017-18.
Chickpea exports will also fall to 95,000 tonnes from the 151,000 tonnes exported in 2015/16. Looking ahead to 2017/18, that number should continue to fall to 80,000 tonnes.
