Canadian dollar and business outlook

WINNIPEG, January 24 – The Canadian dollar was stronger against its US counterpart in early activity on Tuesday.

The commodity-linked loonie advanced on Tuesday, propped up by gains in the crude oil market. Crude was stronger as construction on the Keystone XL pipeline is expected to start moving forward.

At 9:30 CST Tuesday, the Canadian dollar was at US$0.7588 or US$=C$1.3179, which compares with Monday’s North American close of US$0.7537 or US$1=C$1.3267.

In Canadian domestic data, the operating revenue of Canadian wholesalers declined 6.6 per cent in 2015, falling below the C$1.0 trillion mark reached in 2014, Statistics Canada said in a report on Tuesday.

The TSX was up 29.03 points at 9:30 CST Tuesday morning to sit at 15,509.16.
