Winnipeg, June 29 (CNS Canada) – Following are a few highlights in the Canadian and world pulse markets on Wednesday, June 29.
– Total area seeded to lentils in Canada reached a record high of 5.8 million acres in 2016, up 47.8 per cent from the record set in 2015, according to Statistics Canada.
– In 2016, Canadian farmers seeded 160,000 acres if chickpeas, 287,000 acres of dry beans and 4.3 million acres of dry field peas, according to Statistics Canada.
– An excess of rain in Manitoba, Minnesota and North Dakota has caused moisture stress and drowned out spots in dry bean crops.

– India is hoping for a better monsoon, which could provide some much needed support for growth and inflation, according to reports. With pulse inflation high at 34 per cent, a better monsoon would reduce price pressure in lentils and in turn food inflation.
– Canadian chickpea crops are off to a good start, according to reports, with the first half of the season showing average to above average quantities. Desi chickpea prices in Western Canada remain steady, trading at 31.0 cents per pound. Large caliber kabuli chickpeas also remain steady at 54 cents per pound.
