MANITOBA
Southeast
- Cold, wet soil has delayed germination and plant development. Emergence is variable in all seeded crops, with 70 percent of seeding complete.
- Reduced seedling vigour is being encountered as young plants fail to grow rapidly. They are stressed in the cold soil and moisture is providing significant disease opportunities.
- Corn and soybean seeding has progressed little from last week’s 50 percent rate. Crop substitutions are being made in favour of shorter-season crops.
Central
- In the eastern and southern parts of the region, which includes the Red River Valley, seeding progress has nearly stopped because of high moisture conditions.
- Pastures are in poor condition because of slow growing conditions.
