Travellers en route to British Columbia are reminded that a system of web cams has been upgraded to aid drivers in assessing road conditions.

The B.C. ministry of transport said earlier this year that it would add 30 new web cams to its existing array and has also upgraded the Route Planner feature on its DriveBC website.

There are now more than 250 web cams available on the site, which provide real time views of weather and road conditions on highways.

The Route Planner has been upgraded to include information on delays, road closures and border wait times, as well as notices posted on highway message signs along the route being viewed.

Tablet and smart phone applications of the route planner are also available.

“Our DriveBC webcams are an invaluable resource for anyone travelling our provincial highways, and these new webcams and features will provide motorists with additional tools to plan their trip and travel safety,” said B.C. transportation and infrastructure minister Mary Polak in a news release.

The webcam images and features are at www.drivebc.ca.
